President's Message

November 2018

Hello Pico Ski Club Family,

Welcome back to the club to enjoy another great season of skiing at the mountain and with the people we all LOVE!  As I sit here in November, the pre-season snow gets me thinking about the season and what makes a special year for all of us.

The club is special to each of us for various reasons.  For some, it's the ability to come up on a quiet weekday and enjoy a great ski day with close friends.  For others, it's a place for our kids to grow as ski racers and eventually become exceptional adults who carry on our great club tradition and love of the sport.

Regardless of what the club means to you, there are a few common themes that run through all of us:  the love of skiing, great friendships, phenomenal experiences, love for our mountain and our club.

As we start another season and welcome in new families, I think it is prudent to remind everyone of the importance of volunteerism to the current and future success of our club.  If you have a child in the program like I do, we know that part of our responsibility is to satisfy our work-day obligations.  This as we all know can be a great experience where we can learn and appreciate what it takes to put on a race.  Besides being a critical component to hosting a race, it also enables us to gain a new perspective on all the hard work that our GREAT staff does on a daily basis.

That said, we all need to go a step further - whether it's shoveling the walk, snow blowing, helping at workdays, volunteering at social events, etc.. YOUR HELP IS NEEDED far beyond the b net fencing that lines our wonderful race hill.   All of the events are by-products of a volunteer willing to give his or her time to ensure a great experience at the club.  There will be many, many emails asking for help......

I encourage all of you to just DO ONE MORE -- if you didn’t volunteer last year, try one event.  If you did one, try two this season and so on and so forth.

“The broadest, and maybe the most meaningful definition of volunteering:  Doing more than you have to because you want to, in a cause you consider good. ” – Ivan Scheier

Lastly, I would like to recognize and thank all of the great folks on the board and also the staff working at our club.  These folks ensure that YOUR club is in good hands and is headed in the right direction.  Without their help, none of this would be possible
